GARY FITTON
Gary has accounting and legal qualifications and is a
pioneer in the development and proliferation of employee share
plans in Australia. He is responsible for creating virtually
all of the various "new generation" employee share plan
structures operating in the leading Australian and New Zealand
listed companies since 1987.
In 1988, Gary created the Novated and Associate Car Lease
structures, drafted parts of IT2509 and developed a number of
other flexible packaging products (eg. Savings Plans, Exempt
ChildCare etc).
Gary's taxation experience includes 10 years with the
Australian Taxation Office largely in policy and legislation
and two years as a departmental ministerial adviser on
taxation policy in the Department of Industry Technology. Gary
was involved in the preparation of the White Paper on Reform
of the Australian Taxation System and attended the Tax Summit
as a departmental adviser.
After leaving Government service in 1986, Gary was a
consultant with Cullen Egan Dell and a co-founder of
Remuneration Planning Corporation (RPC) in 1987. He left RPC
in 2000 and was involved with the establishment of
Remuneration Strategies Group.
Gary is a leading specialist in the design, implementation
and administration of employee benefits, incentives, share
plans, equity replicator plans and other remuneration issues
in Australia, New Zealand and PNG. He has consulted to many of
those countries' leading companies including Qantas, AXA,
Ford, Orica, AIDC, Ord Minett, Amcor, Goodman Fielder,
Westpac, Baulderstone Hornibrook, PNG Banking Corporation,
Vodafone, Ericsson and Suncorp Metway.
Gary Co-authored "Employee Share Planning in Australia" in
1992, was involved with drafting the ACTU's Employee Share
Plan Handbook in 1993 and has authored numerous technical tax
articles for Thomson's, the Australian Tax Practice. In 2002,
Gary completed a book with Bill Mansfield, the former
Assistant Secretary of the ACTU, and now Commissioner with
Australian Industrial Relations Commission, on Flexible Pay
Packaging and Employee Share Plans.
